We are excited to offer Country Roads of Portugal. Explore the culture and history of this maritime European Country. Its architecture dates back to the 1500’s. Portugal preserves a salty traditional culture with its seaside coast. Enjoy the best of Portugal’s Cities & Countryside on this tour.
Tour level: Active – capable of walking fair distances at a reasonable pace, negotiate stairs easily, on uneven European terrain, and to quickly navigate through airports.
Wednesday, July 31st - We will meet at the Sault Ste. Marie International Airport at 2:45 pm for our Air Canada flight # 8204 departing at 4:15pm arriving Toronto at 5:33 pm and then to connect to Air Canada flight #810 leaving Toronto at 11:00 PM for our overnight flight scheduled to arrive in Lisbon at 11:10 am on August 01st (times are subject to changes)

Thursday, August 01st – We meet an Insight Representative at the Airport for our Transfer to our Hotel in Lisbon. Please note we will arrive before check in, so a little time on your own upon arrival. The rest of the day is for rest and explore around the hotel and we will help find a place for dinner with just our group. This overnight was added to our package.

Friday, August 02nd – Today we can again explore around the hotel and your Sunshine Tour Director will assist with Lunch ideas. This evening, we meet our Insight Group with our Insight Tour Director to start the tour.

Saturday, August 03rd - Today we join a local expert to see the highlights of the city of Lisbon, exploring the lower town, the Belem Quarter & visiting Jeronimos Monastery. At the end of the day have some leisure time or take in the Optional Dinner Experience.

Sunday, August 04th – Today we travel to the sun-drenched southern Algarve coast to Lagos, a fishing village on the bay of Meia Praia. There is free time to first explore the city and then free time to explore the many things within walking distance of our resort for our overnight.

Monday, August 05th - Our travels today take us to the walled city of Evora, where we will overnight. We will explore first this UNESCO world heritage city with a local expert and then have free time to enjoy the city on your own or take in an optional Cork Factory Visit here.

Tuesday, August 06th - Today we travel to the striking white village of Monsaraz, situated on an imposing hill top surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. We will enjoy a leisurely cruise on the tranquil waters of Lake Alqueva. We will have a highlight lunch at what was once an olive mill. We return to our Evora hotel for our overnight with the evening at leisure to continue to explore.

Wednesday, August 07th – This morning, we travel to Coimbra to join a “Make Travel Matter” experience as we visit Casa Relvas for a wine tasting. We continue to Tomar to visit the Templar Castle and Convent of Christ, a UNESCO Heritage sight. We also visit the medieval Synague of Tomar. Journey for the day ends in Tomar for dinner and our overnight.

Thursday, August 08th - Today our adventure continues to the old town of Coimbra, a UNESCO World heritage site, where we will explore the highlights with a Local Expert. Then we journey on through the lush countryside to Douro for our Farm-to-Table Dinner for the evening and overnight.

Friday, August 09th – Today we journey to Guimaraes to admire the views of the historic city from the ruined castle. We continue to travel to Porto. Here Insight offers a couple of choices for exploring during the day. And in the evening after we arrive at our hotel for the night, there is an optional experience to cruise on a traditional Rabelo boat. Finish the evening with dinner on your own perhaps in the comfort of the riverside restaurant at the hotel where we overnight.

Saturday, August 10th - Enjoy a full day in Portugal at your own pace, or take in the optional excursion to Braga, the capital of Baroque. In the evening you bid adeus to your Travel Director with wine and celebration dinner in an authentic Porto restaurant.

Sunday, August 11th – On our last full day in Portugal we travel to the pilgrimage place Fatima to explore the basilica. We journey to the fortified town of Obidos and walk within its walls and our travels take us back to the capital of Portugal to Lisbon for our last overnight.

Monday, August 12th –After breakfast we will depart for the Lisbon Airport on AC flight #811 from Lisbon at 12:50pm arriving in Toronto at 4:10pm connecting to AC flight #8205 departing Toronto at 8:40 pm arrive Sault Ste Marie at 10:04 pm.
