Tahquamenon Falls are located in upper Michigan, 70 miles from Sault Ste.Marie and minutes outside Paradise Michigan. The Upper Falls are the second largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi and second in size to Niagara Falls. They are 200 ft. wide x 48ft. high. Over 50,000 gallons of water spill over this waterfall per second. As you get closer to the viewing decks you can hear the growing sound of water flowing and falling.
It is truly an awe-inspiring experience for all ages. The Tahquamenon name is attributed to the waters' Amber colour which is a result of the leaching of tannic acid from the cedar and hemlock swamps. The Lower Falls are a series of five smaller falls located four miles downstream from the Upper Falls. We depart the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library at 8AM and cross into the USA. A short drive will have us at Tahquamenon Falls by mid-morning. After touring the falls we will enjoy lunch (included) at the on-site Brewery and Pub Restaurant. Micro-brewed beer is available on-site. Following lunch there will be time to browse the gift shop...it carries a large array of interesting items. Our next stop will be the Whitefish Point Lighthouse and Great Lakes Maritime Museum. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the museum (5 exhibits) at your leisure. During our visit, be sure to watch the
